Hypertension, or high blood pressure, has become so widespread that it has almost become an epidemic especially during 2020 when Covid-19 made an appearance. Stress has become so common since then which has been leading to high blood pressure even in those that have never had an issue with it. High blood pressure is caused by a variety of factors, including poor eating habits, a lack of physical activity, job pressure, and elevated stress, to name a few. High blood pressure is related to a variety of health problems. It’s one of the leading causes of heart disease and stroke.
Hypertension is a serious condition that should not be overlooked. Natural remedies can assist in lowering blood pressure levels. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber, can help with high blood pressure. Similarly, those teas will help you maintain a healthy blood pressure level. Your morning cup of tea can now help you better control your blood pressure. Teas for high blood pressure come with so many other health benefits that you’ll literally be killing two birds with one stone. Having HBP doesn’t mean a trip to the doctor, you can elevate your own HBP by simply drinking certain herbal teas and or certain supplements.
Green Tea
Green tea is loaded with health benefits. It is widely consumed to increase weight loss. Green tea can help in controlling your high blood pressure. Green tea is known to improve the flow of blood. It also reduces inflammation in your heart tissues. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants which also improve heart health. If you have high blood pressure, drink a cup or two of green tea daily. Don’t limit yourself to straight green tea, Matcha, Genmaicha, and gunpowder green tea are perfect green teas to use!
Turmeric Tea
Some people may not agree with the taste of turmeric tea so some people would rather take the turmeric capsules. That is fine as long as you take the proper dosage. Turmeric has a wide range of health benefits but is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Some may not even consider turmeric to lower high blood pressure but it actually is known to lower HBP. Turmeric is not something that you should take WHEN you have HBP but should be taken daily for multiple reasons.
Rooibos Tea
Rooibos is a delightful red tea that is perfect to drink when controlling or lowering HBP. What makes this tea so great is that it is great both cold and hot. Some people don’t like to drink hot tea especially when it is hot out or simply don’t like hot tea at all. Don’t limit yourself, rooibos is wonderful iced! Chrysoeriol, an antioxidant found in rooibos tea has been shown to reduce the narrowing and hardening of the arteries which leads to HBP.
Holy Basil (Tulsi Tea)
Holy basil, also known as tulsi, contains a wealth of nutrients such as vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium, both of which aid in the treatment of hypotension and the maintenance of a healthy blood pressure reading. Tulsi leaves contain the antioxidant eugenol, which not only helps to maintain low blood pressure but also reduces blood cholesterol levels. You can take holy basil capsules, drink the tea or eat 5-6 leaves of fresh holy basil leaves preferably on an empty stomach as it helps a lot faster. However, tea is weaker than taking the potent capsule. Over time of controlling your HBP, you can reframe from the capsules and drink the tea as continuing consuming the holy basil will keep your blood pressure elevated and that is what we want.
Chamomile Tea
Chamomile tea has been used for many years to help calm your body and relax your mind but, what most people don’t know is that it is a powerful tea that can be used in lowering your blood pressure. Since stress is a big factor in high blood pressure, chamomile helps lower your stress. If you can maintain your stress level you can also keep your blood pressure elevated. Meditation is also a great practice to include in your daily life.
There are other ways that you can do to control your HBP. Exercising daily, even while your blood pressure is high, going for a walk or jog will help lower and make you feel better. Change your diet, this can’t be said enough. How most people diet is literally the main factor why Americans have HBP. If you watched your sodium intake daily, you would be impressed by how much sodium you’re putting in your body. It is very wise to eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and clean meats. Eat more fish and I’m not talking about ordering fried catfish from the menu. Eat baked fish or fresh fish such as sushi/Poke bowls. Start practicing meditation, yoga tai chi, etc.
